Georgiana School freshman Jacquez Payton scored 33 points to power the Panthers to a 66-59 win over Red Level High School Monday night in Red Level.
With the win, the Panthers climb to 16-9 on the season.
The win gives the Panthers the third seed in the upcoming area tournament, hosted by top-seeded J.F. Shields High School.
Georgiana freshman Richard Boggan recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Red Level.
K.J Lawrence and Justin Maddox contributed 26 points and 17 points, respectively, for Red Level.
The win came on the heels of a 60-55 loss to Brantley High School Friday night in Georgiana.
“Brantley has a very talented team this year, our kids gave everything they had and I was proud of their effort regardless of the outcome,” Georgiana head coach Kirk Norris said
The loss to the Bulldogs marked the second time Brantley has bested the Panthers in the last two weeks.
“We had some missed opportunities at the end of the game, but that’s the way it goes some nights, the ball just doesn’t bounce your way,” Norris said. “We have been in some close games and won those games, it just wasn’t our night. I fully trust our guys in crunch time when a game is close.”
The Panthers’ offensive attack was led by Travales Smith’s 17 points.
Payton added 16 points and Boggan chipped in 12 points
