Employees of the City of Georgiana will soon be seeing a few extra dollars in their paychecks.

The Georgiana City Council recently approved a 3 percent pay raise for all 21 city employees.

The last raise came in 2011 when the council also approved of a 3 percent increase for city employees.

“(This raise is) the second time in four years,” Georgiana Mayor Mike Middleton said. “It has been seven years before they had done that so this will be two in 12 years.”

The raises are directly related to the increase in the cost of living going up in the community, Middleton said.

The 3 percent increase will cost the city between $15,000 and $20,000.

“If the city is doing OK making a little bit of money, the employees are helping you to make it by the work that they’re doing,” Middleton said. “It’s a little bonus type thing for them and an incentive to keep them working the way that they are.”
