Greenville Dixie Youth is down but not out after falling to Bellingrath 7-0 today in the Dixie Youth State Tournament.

Head Coach Keith Taylor said his team just didn’t hit the ball.

“We have not hit the baseball,” Taylor said. “In the first game, we didn’t get a hit in the first three innings. We didn’t hit well today. If you don’t hit the baseball, you can’t score any runs and if you don’t score any runs you don’t win.”

After committing two errors early on, Greenville gave up a homerun making it 4-0.

“Ryan Davis was our starting pitcher and he pitched the first three innings and he gave up those four runs in the first inning,” Taylor said. “If we had made the two plays to get the three outs, Davis wouldn’t have had to face that batter.”

Davis shut out Bellingrath for two innings before Greenville’s Trent Richardson pitched the fourth and fifth inning where Bellingrath got another homerun.

“We just never rebounded,” Taylor said. “We didn’t hit the ball good enough to win.”

Greenville’s Tripp Richardson, Trevor Langford and Taite Watson each got a hit in the game’s six innings.

Greenville will face off against Suburban West out of Montgomery on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
