Lady Knights edge Lady Eagles

Macon-East Montgomery Academy edged Fort Dale Academy 41-35 Friday in the consolation round of the Class AAA, Region 1 tournament at Huntingdon College.

The Lady Eagles (14-12) held an 18-14 lead at the close of the first half, but a 16-10 advantage in the third period propelled the Lady Knights into the lead.

Fort Dale regained the lead with 1:50 remaining to play when Barrett Leverette scored on inbounds play to put the Lady Eagles on top 35-34, but the lead was short-lived.  Fort Dale would not score another point, while the Lady Knights added a basket from the floor and five free throws to seal the win.

Mary Sanford Perdue led the Lady Eagles with 13 points.

Anne Matthews added eight points and five assists and Leverette scored five points for Fort Dale.

Despite the loss, the Lady Eagles still advance to the AISA Elite Eight after claiming the regular-season region championship. Fort Dale will play Wilcox Academy Friday at 3 p.m. at Huntingdon College. The Lady Eagles dropped a 40-25 decision to the Lady Wildcats in their season opener on Nov. 21.
