Eagles win two at Border Wars tourney

PHENIX CITY – A second-half rally lifted Fort Dale Academy to a 49-45 win against Crisp Academy (Ga.) Thursday at the Border Wars Tournament hosted by Glenwood School.

The Eagles (9-3) posted a 2-0 record at the tournament after a 43-39, opening-round win against Flint River Academy (Ga.) on Wednesday.

Tyler Millo led the Eagles scoring attack against Crisp with 16 points on the strength of a 5-for-13 shooting performance from the floor and a 2-for-5 effort from beyond the arc.

Nine of the 10 Eagles that saw action in the win scored at least two points. Wesley Scott, who connected on 4-of-5 attempts from the field, scored eight points, while Ryan Salter and Cam Norman each scored six points. Norman also tallied a team-high seven steals.

In the Eagles’ win against Flint River, Fort Dale squeaked out the win despite connecting on just 19.2 percent of its attempts from the field and 7.7 percent of its attempts from beyond the arc.

Chip Taylor paced the squad’s offensive charge with 15 points. Taylor hit 4-of-6 attempts from the field and 1-of-2 attempts from beyond the arc.

Millo chipped in 14 points in the win, aided by a 6-for-8 effort from the free-throw line. Taylor Windham added six points for the Eagles, all from the free-throw line.

Fort Dale will be back in action Tuesday when it hosts Monroe Academy. Junior varsity action is slated to begin at 4 p.m. with varsity action to follow.
