Georgiana School senior Adrian Rich scored 26 points to power the Panthers to a 56-54 win against Saint Luke’s Episcopal School Nov. 22 in Mobile.
“We got a big boost from Adrian offensively and that is something we expect out of him as a returning two-year starter and All-State player from last year,” Georgiana head coach Kirk Norris said. “If he can consistently play that well on offense, we have a chance to be very good.”
With the win, the Panthers improved to 1-1 on the season.
“The game was back and forth and we were fortunate to come out with a tough win,” Norris said. “We made some plays down the stretch and free throws at the end to get the win.”
Keon Binion and Lee Curry also notched double figures for Georgiana. Both players scored 10 points.
Justin Oikle snagged 11 rebounds in the win, which came a week after the Panthers dropped their opener 67-47 to Luverne.
“Luverne probably has one of the better teams around this area,” Norris said. “We played decent for about three quarters but made a lot of mental mistakes late in the game that snowballed on us. They made a run and we could never really get back in to it. We definitely have to learn from it and work to improve.”
Curry led the Panthers’ charge with 14 points, while Rich and Binion added 13 and 10 points, respectively.
