Greenville just ran out of gas.
On Saturday, the termite Tigers were upset 25-19 in overtime by Crestview (Fla.) in the Tri-County Football League Super Bowl at the YMCA of Greenville.
“We had our foot on the gas, and just ran out of gas halfway through the fourth quarter,” Greenville head coach Jason Posey said. “It was a good performance, but we just came up a little short.”
The loss was the first of the season for Greenville (7-1), which had not surrendered a single point entering the contest.
“Our kids played an excellent game,” Posey said. “I couldn’t have asked anymore of them. This loss was all on me, and I explained that to the boys after the game. It wasn’t their fault. They left it all on the field and I couldn’t be more proud of them. If I had it to do all over again, I’d choose this same group of boys.”
Greenville finished as the league runner-up.
