The Georgiana junior high boys’ basketball team opened its 2011-12 campaign with a 40-22 win against Class 3A Luverne.

Richard Boggan led the Panthers’ charge with a double-double. He recorded 16 points and 11 rebounds in the win.

Jacquez Payton added 14 points for the Panthers (1-0).

In junior high girls’ action the Lady Tigers topped the Lady Panthers 23-8.

Zandreca Johnson led the Lady Panthers (0-1) with 6 points.

Georgiana and Luverne will face off for the second time in a week on Tuesday when the Georgiana travels to Luverne.

The junior high girls’ game is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. with the junior high boys’ game set to follow.
