Morgan Academy raced out to an early lead and never looked back en route to a 28-14 win against Fort Dale Academy Tuesday night in junior varsity action.

For most of the first half Morgan completely dominated the Eagles, staking claim to a 22 – 0 lead.

The Senators dominated time of possession as the Eagles ran only four offensive plays in the first quarter. The run game, which has provided the offensive punch for the Eagles this season, was shut down by Senators’ defense.

There was less than a minute to go in the first half when the slumbering Eagles finally took flight.  Quarterback Daniel Hall Autrey lofted a bomb to wide receiver Austin Vickery for 55 yards and a touchdown. Autrey ran the two-point conversion and the Eagles were on the board and trailed at the half 22 – 8.

In their first possession of the second half Morgan churned out another scoring drive which took more than five minutes off the clock.  Morgan extended their lead to 28 – 6.

The Eagles bolted right back.

Again, Vickery got behind the Morgan defenders and Autrey hit him in stride for a 31 yard scoring strike and the Eagles kept it close 28 – 14.  But that would be the end of the scoring as the final drives by the Eagles fizzled.

Offensively, the Eagles were held to only 28 yards rushing.  However, Autrey completed 7-of-10 passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

Vickery’s two touchdown catches were good for 86 yards.  Caleb Whigham caught four passes for the Eagles.

The Eagle defense labored hard and kept the game within reach, especially in the second half.  Avery Shipp, Keaton Fleming, Tyler Gibson, Colby Stone, and Whigham all delivered hard hits for the defense.

The Eagles play their final home game of the season Tuesday night against Monroe Academy.
