Greenville’s chase for a state title and a berth in the Dixie Youth Majors World Series ended on Tuesday.
Thomasville bounced Greenville from the double-elimination tournament by outpacing the squad 7-5 in a losers’ bracket showdown.
Greenville’s Chase Mansmann hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but it wasn’t enough to overtake Thomasville, which was knocked into the losers’ bracket by Smiths Station. Mansmann had two RBI, and was 1-for-3 in the loss.
Sullivan Harold added a single and a run, and Grey Tucker had an RBI single.
Greenville starting pitcher Tyler Weeks was perfect through three innings, before turning the game over to Greenville’s bullpen.
Jacob Dunn was 2-for-2 with two runs scored for Thomasville. Chad Bryant also had a run scored and was 1-for-3. Jesse Joyce was 1-for-3 as well, with an RBI double and a stolen base.
Reid Thompson got the win for Thomasville, allowing two hits, five runs and striking out seven.
