Tigers ‘working hard’

Parents and fans alike packed into Tiger Stadium Thursday for a sneak peak of the 2011 Greenville High School football squad.
New coach Earnest Hill is happy with the team’s progress so far, although he said they still have some room for growth.
“We started a new defense this spring, but they have picked up everything I have thrown at them,” Hill said.
“They actually played pretty good — they didn’t allow a score.”
The defense “bended, but didn’t break,” the coach said.
“The thing I am trying to instill in my defense is to make the offense snap it again,” Hill said. “The defense gave up a big play, but they didn’t get down, and on the next play, the offense made a mistake, snapping the ball over the quarterback’s head.”
Hill said he is dealing with a young team, one that plans on starting four rising sophomores on the offensive line, and a rising junior at quarterback.
“We have to get a lot stronger,” Hill said.
“We need to get back in the weight room, get all of kids on the same page.
“We are still getting tired out there, and the kids need to get used to not giving in to a little pain.”
Hill said the team will not use their age as an excuse, however.
“We have been working at it for about three weeks, and already we have made some great strides,” Hill said.
“We are still just working hard and learning more every day.”
