With defending state champions Brantley set for Friday, the Georgiana Panthers are holding their heads high, despite their current four-game losing streak.

“When its time to get into the W column, we will,” said head coach Shawn Gregory. “Our time will come.”

Last week, the Panthers were plagued with penalties, something Gregory said he couldn’t be concerned about.

The Panthers lost their second close game of the season, 39-36 to Geneva County.

Prior to that, Georgiana lost a 20-18 game to visiting Florala. Georgiana now stands 0-2 in region play with still Brantley and McKenzie on the schedule.

“Its out of my control,” Gregory said. “When you are on the road, the home team is going to get the calls are you aren’t. All we can do is be professional about it and continue to get better.”

Gregory said he’s focused more on the attitudes of his players, and the way they all work together.

“Here in my first year, we’ve done some good by salvaging some character issues,” Gregory said. “I’m focusing on keeping them together and keeping them from getting down on themselves.”

Georgiana will host defending state champions Brantley on Friday.

“It isn’t going to get any easier for us,” Gregory said. “The only good thing is we have them at home. We are just going to continue to do what we do and get better.”
