“I came in a little late, but I think it can take off real well,” Gregory said. “We are trying to reach out to the people of the community to get them to support it.”

Gregory said that he is still seeking more participants, but so far, the following four celebrities have confirmed:

Eddie Payton, who played for running back the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings.

Lewis Tillman, who played running back for the New York Giants and Chicago Bears.

Bobby Humphrey, who played running back for the University of Alabama, earning him a spot on the 1986 and 1987 All-American Football team. Humphrey played in the NFL for the Denver Broncos and the Miami Dolphins.

Keldrick Dunn, who was a member of the Clemson 1982 National Championship team, and played professional football for the St. Louis Rams, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Washington Redskins and the New York Jets.

Registration begins at 11 a.m. with a cost of $400 per team or $100 per player. Lunch will follow at Noon. The tournament format will be a four-person, best ball scramble, with a shotgun start planned for 1 p.m.

Prizes will be awarded for longest drive, closest to the pin, hole in one, and best second shot, in addition to door prizes and other prizes.

“We want to reach out to local high school and college coaches to try to bring a sense of continuity together,” Gregory said. “It gives us an opportunity to bond and get a chance to talk about the kids we coach.”

Gregory said that between Troy and Auburn, there are numerous colleges and high schools.

“To get all of the coaches together on one golf course would really help bring the community together,” Gregory said.

Money generated from entrance fees will go to the Georgiana High athletic department.
