After four innings of play, the Mites All-Star game was called off due to inclement weather.

Troy currently leads Greenville, 12-3. The final two innings have been rescheduled to tonight at 5 p.m.

“There was no way they could get the field back dry enough to finish yesterday,” said Coach Stacy Meyers.

Meyers said the boys started strong, leading the first two innings. At the end of the second, the Greenville Mites were leading Troy 3-1.

The third inning, Troy started warming up at bat. They grabbed the lead back, ending the third inning 5-3. Troy continued gaining momentum in the fourth inning, managing to increase their lead to a comfortable 12-3 before rain stopped play.

Meyers said they are going to have to come out strong, or the game could be over in one inning instead of two.

“We have to score at least two and shut them out in the fifth or the game will end,” Meyers said. “You can’t score more than seven runs in one inning in this league, so it would be impossible to catch up.”

Meyers said when she gives her players the pre-game pep talk, she plans on reminding them of what they already accomplished.

“They already fought their way back from the losers bracket to the championship,” Meyers said.

Hopefully, Meyers said, the delay put an end to Troy’s gaining momentum.

“I wish it could have started raining in the fourth instead of the fifth,” Meyers said.
