For sheer cuteness quotient, the contestants in Saturday’s event just couldn’t be beat. The 11 four-footed beauties strutted their stuff during the Pet Parade at the Butler County Humane Society’s “Bark in the Park.”

And everybody was a winner.

Bonnie Byrd’s Dachshund, Tu, took “Best Dressed Boy;” Sassy, owned by Cindy Faulk, won “Best Hairstyle” with the pink bows in her topknot;

Kristi Sexton’s over-sized Great Dane, Lily, earned “Biggest – No Spots,” while “Best Dressed Girl” honors went to Princess Pheobe, a Pomeranian owned by Janeen Mosely.

Other winners were Abigail Mathews’ Sugar, a Schnauzer who earned “Best Haircut;” Alan Johnson’s Boston Terrier, Dottie, “Most Vocal;” Mary Ann Hamilton’s pretty redhead Ginger, “Fluffiest;” Jennifer Fox’s handsome Chocolate Lab, Tucker, “Best Behaved;” Tamara Hollyhead’s Dogge and Danielle took “Cutest Couple,” while her grey-and-white Great Dane, Duke, earned the “Biggest – With Spots” honors.

All the dogs got a chance to sniff out their choice of winning treats from the prize basket.

The event also proved a great opportunity for puppies and kittens in need of a fur-ever home to meet the public and make some new friends.

“Having the young volunteers has been great. It gives a chance for these animals to be more socialized,” said BCHS member Susanna Coleman.

A number of gift items and baskets along with some tempting baked goods were on sale during the event.

“We had a nice little crowd for our event and the weather was just beautiful,” said event organizer Annie Crenshaw. “And we took in just under $500 in donations and gift/bake sale items. Between Calico Fort and Bark in the Park over the past two weekends we’ve generated something over $1,300. We so appreciate everyone who turned out and supported this event.”
