A tough four-game roadtrip last weekend ended well for the Crenshaw Christian Cougars as they pulled out wins in all four games.
CCA traveled west on Friday to play a doubleheader against South Choctaw before following up with a doubleheader against Sumter on Saturday.
In the first game against South Choctaw, Jud Sutley pitched a gem as the Cougars blasted SCA 13-1.
The second game of the doubleheader wasn’t much different as Alex Golden led CCA to a 9-4 victory on the mound.
There was nothing unlucky about the number 13 as the Cougars put it on the board again twice the next day against Sumter.
CCA won those games 13-0 and 13-4 behind the pitching of Michael D’Arville and Tyler McGough, who both threw complete games.
On Monday, the Cougars faced region opponent Evangel and came through with a 9-4 win with Golden again pitching.
That win moves CCA to 15-8 overall and 7-2 in the region.
“We’ve only got three region games left,” said head coach Roland Jones.
Two of those games are in a doubleheader today against Lakeside, however, rain may force them to be rescheduled.
The other game is against Edgewood, who is currently the top seed in the region.
“It’s coming down to the wire,” Jones said. “The top two teams in the region host the first round of the playoffs, so we want to try to finish one or two. Right now, we’re second, which is big for us because we want to try to host.”
