At Monday’s meeting, the Crenshaw County Commission approved two temporary emergency hires by the county road department to help alleviate the problems facing the county’s roads.

The two employees hired will work part-time at 20 hours per week, and the plan is for them to operate a motor grader.

“This will be like adding another employee,” said commissioner Ricky McElwain.

The commission also had to pass a motion about the pay of emergency-hired motor grader operators.

Under the previous policy, they would be hired at minimum wage, however the commission felt that due to the experience required to operate such heavy machinery, the hires should be paid at the starting pay grade for heavy machinery.
