Four Fort Dale seniors participated in the 2010 AISA All-Star games.
Shanks Simmons, Luke Hutcheson, Abbey Martin and Emily Boulware all made the all-star cut. The game was held February 26 at Huntingdon College.
Coach William Johnson coached the all-star boys practices.
“All four of our players did as good as four players from one school can,” Johnson said.
All four players played on the East team. Both East teams swept the West, with the girls winning 79-76 and the boys winning 82-70.
Simmons and Hutcheson, Johnson said, both scored 9 points in the game.
“I know they had a good time,” Johnson said. “It was good for them to be able to play with and against kids they had played all year.”
The teams played college-style rules, with 20-minute halves.
Johnson said getting such a talented group to work together is always a challenge.
“We only got to practice together three times,” Johnson said. “You just try to show them a few things as a group. The good thing is, you don’t have to teach them basketball.”
Bree Nowlin of Springwood was named East girls MVP, and Lakeside’s Jay Weston was named MVP for the East boys.
