Fort Dale’s regularly scheduled games during the week were cancelled, but the Eagle’s baseball team traveled to Monroeville Saturday to play Wilcox and Monroe.

Fort Dale came out on top in both outings, defeating Wilcox 17-0 and Monroe 14-6.

Coach Josh Beverly said it all came together at these games.

“We started swinging the bat pretty good and just did what we were supposed to do,” Beverly said.

Hunter Armstrong pitched the entire game, Beverly said, giving up only one hit.

Brandon Matthews and Skylar McKeown had a total of seven RBIs between them. John Scott and Dustin Till both went 2-for-2.

The second game o the day, versus Monroe, went similar to the first. The Eagles got their bats swinging again, toppling Monroe 14-6

“This was a big win for us because they are 3A,” Beverly said. “They were runners-up in the state tournament last year.”

Beverly said the Monroe game gave him a chance to let his pitchers get some time on the mound. Todd Burkett, Dustin Till, Skylar McKeown and Jonathon Scott all pitched a few innings.

“We needed to get ready for Hooper in our region double-header,” Beverly said.

Beverly said that his team hit well again, and played good defense. Todd Burkett went 3-for-4, with one two-run home run. Skylar McKeown went 4-for-5, picking up four RBIs.

Coach Beverly said he thinks his team is heading in the right direction.

“We scored 46 runs in the past three games,” Beverly said. “We are finally starting to get going.”
