On March 27, women from around south Alabama will converge on South Luverne Baptist Church for the fourth annual Women’s Conference sponsored by the Crenshaw County Women for Christ.

This year’s event is called “Fix Your Feet” and centers around Psalm 37:23, which reads, “The steps of a good man [woman] are ordered by the Lord, and he delights in his way.”

Ann Tate said that the response so far has been tremendous and that she expects a full house for the event.

“Women arrive early and many hang around after the conference,” Tate said. “We have a wonderful fellowship and a lot of fun.”

The event also features a guest speaker, and this year’s conference is headlined by Kim Hendrix, who is an anchor and reporter for WSFA.

Hendrix is involved in the Shine Your Light Women’s Ministry at Frazer United Methodist Church in Montgomery.

The conference is in its fourth year, and was started after several local women attended a women’s conference in Atlanta in 2006.

After getting a group together to brainstorm and organize, a steering committee was born.

“We had an interest meeting in October 2006, and there were 77 women in attendance from 26 churches from Davenport to Dozier,” Tate said.

The inaugural conference was a success, and it has continued to grow since then.

“Over 300 women have attended each of our last three conferences, representing 86 churches,” Tate said. “Many of them are from outside Crenshaw County, and we are pleased to have had a number of women with no church affiliation attending.”

Despite the fact that the conference is only for women, local men still find a way to get involved.

They help with the assembly of boxed lunches, serve the women and then clean up afterwards so the ladies don’t miss the conference.

The fellows also direct traffic and serve as sound technicians that rehearse with the speaker and musicians.

Music also plays an integral part of the conference, and Laura Aaron will once again lead this year’s praise and worship.

“We’ve enjoyed wonderful music each year, including a county-wide choir who practices in advance of the conference,” Tate said. “We are blessed to have extremely gifted musicians leading us.”

Getting an early start on things, choir practice for interested women will begin this Sunday afternoon at South Luverne Baptist.

Tickets for the event are still available for only $10.

“Because of how much material we’ve had donated and the number of supporters, we have been able to keep the cost of admission to $10, which includes a box lunch and conference materials,” Tate said.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 27.
