At Monday night’s city council meeting, the Luverne City Council heard a proposal from Butch Speed to open up the Eastwood development’s streets to the public.
“Our request is that you consider letting us deed the streets to the city,” Speed said.
Speed said he believes the development has been an asset to Luverne, and he also made the point that the streets were built to state code.
“There’s no additional expense there – just maintenance,” he said.
Overall, there is about 1.3 miles of road involved in the proposal.
The council discussed the idea, but didn’t take any action on it.
“We’d like to get a legal opinion before we take action on this,” said mayor Joe Rex Sport.
