Eugene Ray Chambliss Sr., age 81, a resident of Greenville, AL, died on Sunday, January 24, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at Antioch East Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Boulware officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family received friends on Tuesday, January 26th, from 6 a.m.until 8 p.m. at Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home.
Mr. Chambliss will lie in state at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to services.
Mr. Chambliss is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruby Chambliss, daughter, Denise Chambliss (Tony) Lehner of Fairhope, AL, son, Eugene Ray (Cindy) Chambliss, Jr. of Greenville, AL, grandchildren, Katie Trumbo, Andrea Campbell, Eugene Ray Chambliss, III, Sarah Elizabeth Chambliss, John Phillip Chambliss, Leanne Lockhart, Revis Adam Lockhart, Brandon Slade Langford, three great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Myra Jean Chambliss of Ft. Deposit, AL, and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Chambliss was a member of and Deacon Emeritus of Antioch East Baptist Church.
He served our country for 26 years before retiring as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army. During his service he served two tours in Vietnam and a tour in Korea during wartime.
Mr. Chambliss received many honors including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
