In the spirit of competition and community, Pioneer Electric Cooperative announces that its employees at their Greenville office have donated $400 worth of holiday spirit to Safe Harbor, The Children’s Advocacy Center, Inc. Steve Harmon, PEC Vice President and General Manager; along with several members of PEC’s staff presented Safe Harbor director Kathy Smyth with the check to help benefit the children of the community on Monday, December 21st.
The employees raised money for three months by participating in the co-op’s Casual Day Fund that began in September as a way for employees to support their favorite football team and give back to the community at the same time. Every Friday, employees donate $2 to the Casual Day Fund to wear jeans to work.
“This was an excellent way to contribute money to an organization that has done so much for children and at the same time give the employees a chance to have some fun with each other supporting rival teams,” said Harmon.
The Casual Day Fund was so successful the cooperative has decided to continue the new tradition year round.
“The employees all had charities they wanted to support, so going forward we will allow them to choose a charity on a quarterly basis to donate the funds to and Pioneer will match whatever they raise up to $500” Harmon said.
