Bryan Place receives Heritage Farm Award
A special recognition was made during the Luverne Kiwanis Club’s National Farm-City Week Program.
Mr. Joseph Bryan received the Century and Heritage Farm award from Sharon Fulmer of the Deputy Commission of the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries’ Chief of Staff.
Since the Century and Heritage Farm program began in 1976, the department has recognized more than 450 farms in Alabama.
In the past, 11 other farms in Crenshaw County have been recognized as Century and Heritage Farms.
The Old Bryan Place, located in Dozier, has been owned and operated by the same family for over 100 years. The property was originally acquired on Aug. 12, 1880, by E.T. and Sallie Bryan, the grandfather of Joseph L. Bryan. Mr. Bryan owns and operates the farm today where he raises timber.
In the past, the family has grown cotton, corn, and timber as well as cattle and hogs.
