The Georgiana Panthers rolled over county rival Greenville on the way to a Super Bowl berth in Andalusia Saturday.
Georgiana’s Jacquez Payton put the Panthers on the board first, but Greenville responded at the end of the first quarter.
Marvin Posey broke a 40-yard run to make the score 14-6 early in the second quarter for the Panthers, and that’s where the game stood at halftime.
Georgiana broke the game open in the second half and won 36-6.
“That was the hardest-fought game we’ve had all season,” said Greenville coach Adam Simmons. “We’ve got a real young team, and if we can get them to come back next year, we can definitely compete again.”
In the second game of the afternoon, the Panthers suffered their first loss of the season with an 8-0 loss to Evergreen.
Despite that loss, the Panthers will still compete for the Super Bowl title this Saturday.
Simmons said the team is planning to have some offseason camps, and interested players can contact the YMCA.
