Lady Cougars look for state title Saturday

The Lady Cougars of Crenshaw Christian Academy will play in their second straight final four in Montgomery, Ala., on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Faulkner University.

“We are excited and blessed to have the opportunity to play on Saturday,” head coach Michael Malpass said. “We have had to change some strategy, but hope to represent Crenshaw well with a good showing.”

The Cougars competed in the regionals held at Enterprise Prep on Monday, Oct. 19, and Tuesday, Oct. 20th. The Cougars defeated Autauga Academy in the first round, Lowndes Academy in the semi-finals, and lost in the finals to Enterprise Prep.

The Cougars are currently 24-6 on the season headed into the final four where they will face off against Sumter Academy.

The Cougars play at 11:30 a.m., and if they win will advance to the state championship which will be played at 2:30 p.m. at Faulkner on Saturday, Oct. 24th.

The Cougars had two all-tournament players voted in by the coaches of the champion of the regional tournament, Enterprise Prep. The players included senior setter Kelly Sasser and sophomore hitter/defender Jasmine Wise.

“We have our work cut out for us, but we believe in our kids’ abilities,” Malpass said. “We will miss our seniors and look forward to one last tournament with this group.”
