Robert Keith Sexton

SEXTON, Mr. Robert Keith, 40, a resident of LaPine, Ala., died Wednesday, October 14, 2009. Graveside services were held Friday, October 16, 2009 at 2 p.m. from the graveside at Cool Spring Cemetery with Harrison Funeral Home directing. Survivors include his two daughters, Hannah and Hailey Sexton, of LaPine, his mother, Mrs. Aldelvis Sexton, LaPine, brothers, Kenneth (Liz) Brown, LaPine, Danny (Amanda) Sexton, Honoraville, Allen (Tonya) Sexton, Honoraville, Ronnie (Lee) Sexton, Honoraville, sisters, Bonnie Myers, Montgomery, Jo-Ann Bennett, Luverne, Faye (Ronnie) Frazier, Honoraville, and several nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers were Glenn Massey, Ollie Godwin Sr., Ollie Godwin Jr., Joey Godwin, Morris May, and Travis Frost.

Eva Naomi Dean Shackleford

SHACKLEFORD, Mrs. Eva Naomi Dean, 93, a resident of Brantley died Thursday, October 15, 2009. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 19, 2009 at the Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Rev. William Leverette officiating. Interment followed in the Brantley Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Mrs. Shackleford was preceded in death by her husband, Zed Shackleford; daughter, Mary Glenn; son, Billy Shackleford; and a grandson, Chris Shackleford. Survivors include three children, Donnie (Connie) Shackleford, Kendrick (Cindy) Shackleford and Eva Faye (Joseph) Tidwell; seven grandchildren, Naomi (Jamey) Johnson, Rusty (Julie) Shackleford, Jonathan Tidwell, Scott (Katie) Tidwell, Keith (Rhonda) Russell, Mike Russell and Tony (Lorraine) Glenn; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers were Keith Russell, Mike Russell, Tony Glenn, Rusty Shackleford, Scott Tidwell and Jamey Johnson.

James Elwyn Byrd Sr.

BYRD, Mr. James Elwyn, Sr., 70, a resident of Luverne died Saturday, October 17, 2009. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2009 at the Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Rev. David Richburg and Rev. Malcolm Butts officiating. Interment followed at Darien Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Nora Simmons Byrd and a brother, Paul Byrd. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Sarah Byrd; seven children, James E. Byrd, Jr., Jennifer (Steve) LaBoe, Tammy (Chuck) Alford, John (Sharon)West, Debbie (Wendell) Mount, Juliette Adams and Suzette West; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lalar (Wilburn) Tomberlin and Carolyn (Joseph) Tomberlin; two brothers, Charlie Byrd and Max(Toni)Byrd; and a sister-in-law, Annie Jo Byrd. Active pallbearers were Mike Byrd, Clint Byrd, Alex Adams, John David West, Vernon Moody and Todd Parker.

Bernard Milton Rolling

ROLLING, Mr. Bernard Milton, 66, a resident of Luverne died Sunday, October 18, 2009 after an extended illness. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Rev. Clifford Cobb officiating. Interment followed in Live Oak Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Mr. Rolling was preceded in death by his father, Henry J. Rolling. Survivors include his daughter, Sabrina (Chris) Dixon; two grandchildren; mother, Ruth Thompson Rolling; and a brother, Lamar Rolling. Active pallbearers were Jeffrey Rolling, Wayne Rolling, Russ Wilkerson, Ed Taylor, Danny Jones and Stevie Carr.

Jerry Ronald McGough Sr.

JERRY RONALD MCGOUGH, SR. went to the Lord on October 9, 2009, after courageously battling cancer for eight months. He was born on July 16, 1948, the first child of Pruitt and Katie McGough. He attended Highland Home School for 12 years and was graduated in 1966. He excelled playing baseball and football for the Flying Squadron from 1960-1966. He attended Troy State University and received a Bachelor’s degree in marketing and business administration in 1970.

After a seven-year courtship, on August 23, 1970, he married his high school sweetheart Joan Hudson and remained her faithful and loving husband until his death. He is survived by his wife, sons Ron (Tina) McGough and Benjamin McGough (special friend Amanda Dunn); grandchildren Treyton, Reagan, and Natalie McGough; mother Katie McGough; and brothers Donnie McGough, Lonnie McGough, and Jonnie McGough. He is preceded in death by his father, Pruitt McGough.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather and was known to his friends and family as Ronnie, Earl, and Ganddaddy. He accepted the Lord as his personal Savior as a youth while attending Danielville Baptist Church.

Ronnie worked with Horace Mann Educators, First Alabama Bank, and Liberty National Insurance Company. At the time of his death he was employed by the State Insurance Department working as a mediator between consumers and insurance companies. He enjoyed assisting Alabama citizens to receive compensation from unresolved claims.

Ronnie enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry, gardening, singing, and Alabama football.

His funeral services were held October 12, 2009, at Spring Creek Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery with Harrison Funeral Home of Greenville directing. The service was conducted by Brother Joe Leverette. Pallbearers were Mike Dunn, C. J. Faulk, Ollie Godwin, Sr., John Hyden, Ronald Lansdon, Ed Paulk, and Stringer Pritchett. Honorary pallbearers were Earnest Hudson and Emmett Bell.

Rebecca Sanders Spradley

SPRADLEY, Mrs. Rebecca Sanders, 93, a resident of Luverne and formerly of Brantley died Wednesday, October 21, 2009 after an extended illness. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday from the Chapel of Turner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Dozier Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Mrs. Spradley was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Ervin E. Spradley; her parents; and she was the last survivor of her eight brothers and sisters. Survivors include her daughter, Judy Hanenkrat of Atlanta, GA; her granddaughter, Keri (Stephen) Arroll of Atlanta, GA; and two great-granddaughters, Spencer Elizabeth Arroll and Mary Collins Arroll, both of Atlanta, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 10 a.m. until service time.
