Greenville native Houston Harrison was inducted into the East Mississippi Community College Sports Hall of Fame at homecoming this past weekend.
Harrison initially played fullback for EMJC head coach Marcus Mapp before enlisting in the United States Army with the 123rd Medical Collecting Company to serve in the Korean War.
He returned to the Scooba campus after his Army stint to start as a center for Hall of Fame head coach Bob “Bull” Sullivan’s Lions in 1952.
Following a collegiate career at Troy State College (now Troy University), Harrison settled in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., where he was employed with the Okaloosa County School District for 46 years until his retirement in 2000.
He has been married for 55 years to the former Betty Tippins, and they have two children – son Jimbo and daughter Marti – along with five grandchildren.
