Brantley holds fourth opponent scoreless

For the fourth week in a row, the Brantley Bulldogs have kept their opponent from putting any points on the scoreboard after their 42-0 shutout of Pleasant Home last Friday night.
The Bulldogs are now 5-1 in regular season play and are ranked fourth in the Class 1A AHSAA polls. This week, they’ll face region foe McKenzie Tigers, who are ranked 10th, and are undefeated.
Brantley didn’t waste any time getting points on the board against Pleasant Home last Friday night as quarterback Chase Hall hit Devonte Porter for a 52-yard touchdown pass on the second play of the game. Adam Hill’s kick was good, and with 10:59 left in the first quarter, Brantley took an early 7-0 lead.
Five minutes later, Tory Upshaw snatched a 24-yard pass from Hall for another Bulldog touchdown; Hill’s kick was good, and Brantley led 14-0.
The next Bulldog score came when Hall made contact with Cassius Tillis on a 35-yard pass with 9:47 left in the second quarter. Hill’s PAT was good, and Brantley enjoyed a 21-0 lead.
Pleasant Home held the ball for a solid 12 plays, but couldn’t manage to put any points on the board. Brantley took over, leading into a 10-play drive that ended on a 3-yard TD run by Devonte Porter with 23 seconds left in the second quarter. Hill’s PAT was good, and Brantley went into the second half with a 28-0 lead.
During the third quarter, Derek Holley scored the next Brantley touchdown on a 4-yard run off right tackle with 5:17 left in the third quarter; Hill missed the PAT, but the Bulldogs had a comfortable 34-0 lead. Later in the third quarter, Zach Wiley took an inside handoff and went 21 yards for his first TD of the night. Quarterback Zach Johnson hit Jamie Burnett for the two-point conversion putting the final points for the night on the board at 42-0 with 8:37 left in the fourth quarter.
Quarterback Chase Hall was 5 of 7 passing for 116 yards and 3 TDs for the night, while Derek Holley rushed 7 times for 116 yards. Devonte Porter had 5 rushes for 46 yards, and two catches for 58 yards and two touchdowns.
For Pleasant Home, Tyler Barbaree had 86 yards rushing on 27 carries.
Brantley faces the undefeated McKenzie Tigers in region play Friday night at 7 p.m. in Bulldog Stadium.
