Despite a thunderstorm that rolled through the area, the Greenville YMCA Tigers played last Saturday and came away with three wins over Straughn.
In the Midgets’ game, Greenville won 19-6.
The Tigers led at halftime, and Dawson Sarblah put the final score of the day on the board with a 47-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Sarblah also scored the Tigers’ other two touchdowns, running for 58 and 38 yards.
Marterrius Davidson, Damien Mount and Christopher Stinson all led the way for a defense that played well as a unit, while Tyrell Adams and Chris Schofield worked with the rest of the offensive linemen to clear a path for Sarblah.
The win was the Tigers’ first victory of the season.
The Tiny Mites pulled off a convincing 34-6 win over Straughn.
Javion Posey proved to be too much for the Straughn defense to handle, as he scored four touchdowns and threw for one more.
That touchdown pass went to Pedro Davidson Jr., and Bishop Riley added the two-point conversions.
The defense also locked Straughn down, and Hunter Mount had several sacks in the game.
Kayla Motley recorded several tackles from the cornerback position to help lead the secondary.
While the Termites struggled and fell to Straughn 6-0, the Pee-Wee team came away with a 6-0 win.
JaQuan Lewis scored the Tigers’ touchdown, but both he and Skylar Moorer played key roles in the offense, rushing for more than 75 yards each.
Both Lewis and Moorer caught passes from quarterback Brandon Simmons.
The Tigers will again be at home this weekend as they take on Baker.
The midgets kick off action at 3:30 p.m. at the YMCA.
