Homecoming victory for Bulldogs

For the third week in a row, the Brantley Bulldogs have enjoyed a shutout victory, this time over county foe Highland Home. The Bulldogs came away with a big 47-0 Homecoming win.
Highland Home took the opening kickoff but soon turned the ball over on downs, something that became a common scene throughout the night.
Brantley got the ball on the HHS 38 yard line. Four plays later, Devonte Porter scored the first Bulldogs touchdown of the night on a three yard run; it would also be the first of four Porter TD’s for the night. Adam Hill’s PAT was true, and with 8:29 left in the first quarter, Brantley led 7-0.
The Flying Squadron lost nine yards on their next possession and turned the ball over on the Brantley 38 yard line again. Quarterback Chase hall threw a six yard pass to Devonte Porter for the second TD with 2:37 left in the first quarter. Hill missed the PAT, but the Bulldogs led 13-0.
After three plays and a punt by Highland Home, the Bulldogs took possession at their own 21 yard line. A six play drive covering 79 yards led to the next TD on a 41 yard pass from QB Hall to Porter. Jared Hall bulled his way in for the two point conversion bringing the Bulldog lead to 21-0 with 10:31 left in the second quarter.
The Flying Squadron managed a first down on their next possession before being forced to punt. Brantley took over. This time, Teven Daniels took the ball on a handoff for a four yard TD run. Hill missed the PAT, but the Bulldogs led the Flying Squadron 27-0 going into halftime.
The second half began with Brantley wasting no time again as they took the kickoff and went 67 yards in five plays for the next TD. The key play in the drive was a 35 yard completion from Hall to Tory Upshaw; the score came on an 8 yard run by Devonte Porter around left end. This time, Hill’s kick was true, and the Bulldogs had a commanding 34-0 lead with 9:59 left in the third quarter.
Highland Home fumbled on their next possession with Clint Kilcrease scooping it up on the HHS 27 yard line. The next Brantley touchdown came on a 7 yard run by Derek Holley. Hill missed the PAT, but the Bulldogs led 40-0.
The Flying Squadron pulled out two first downs on their next possession before turning the ball over on downs. Younger Bulldogs were now in the game; they led the next 7 play drive for the next score which came on a 13 yard run by Reed Kilcrease. During that drive, Zach Wiley played a key role as he rushed four times for a total of 57 yards in that drive. Hill’s PAT was good, and the Bulldogs ended the night with a 47-0 shutout over the Highland Home Flying Squadron.
Brantley Quarterback Chase Hall was 14 of 18 passing for 180 yards, while Zach Wiley was the lead rusher with 92 yards on 10 carries. Devonte Porter had 2 carries for 11 yards and two touchdowns as well as four catches for 61 yards and two more TDs.
For the Flying Squadron, D’Andrea Cole led with 52 yards rushing on 13 carries, while Chris McGhee had 23 yards on three carries.
This week, Brantley travels to Pleasant Home, while the Flying Squadron celebrate Homecoming against Francis Marion.
