The Flying Squadron had a close one last week.

The Squadron had good fan support despite the long, hour and a half drive and rainy weather conditions.

The Flying Squadron visited the R.C. Hatch Bobcats last Friday night. The weather caused about a 20 minute lightening delay but no delay in the Squadron offense. The second play of the game was a touchdown for the Flying Squadron carried by sophomore Dustin Nolan which didn’t stand due to a questionable callback. The Squadron also had a 27 yard touchdown run by senior Alex Gipson that was also called back.

Dustin Nolan also had 149 yards total offense gaining 74 rushing yards on 9 attempts. He also caught two passes for 75 yards. Freshman quarterback John Dunn was 3 of 7 for 81 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions.

Defensively, Junior Caleb Parsons jumped on a fumble and gave the Highland Home Flyboys good field position. Senior Desmond Harris also contributed defensively with an interception. The Squadron had 212 yards of total offense. Highland Home gave up just under 300 yards to the Bobcats for a total of 297 yards.

R.C. Hatch had 214 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. The quarterback for the Bobcats was 7 of 17 for 83 yards. The penalty yardage for Highland Home was 8 penalties for 55 yards. The Bobcats’ penalty troubles were 6 penalties for 30 yards. It was a very close game.

The Flying Squadron impressively dominated the game, but luck was on the side of the Bobcats. The Squadron was on the unfortunate end of a few game altering calls which not only included two touchdowns being called back, but a pass interference call that put the Bobcats in excellent scoring position.

It rained off and on all during the game which wreaked havoc on both offensive and defensive sides of the ball. The Squadron played very hard and they did not stop until the final whistle. The game’s end result was a Bobcat victory 14-0.

The next game for the Flyboys is against Crenshaw county rival, the Brantley Bulldogs, in Brantley. Game time is 7 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium.
