The Brantley Bulldogs enjoyed a second region win for the season as they walked all over the Florala Wildcats 55-0 Friday night.
Brantley quarterback Chase Hall returned to the field and got the ball rolling on the first play of the game as he hit Adam Hill for a 61 yard touchdown pass; however, the run was called back on an illegal block against Brantley.
It didn’t take the Bulldogs long to recover, though, as Hall hit Teven Daniels on a 42-yard touchdown pass just three plays later. Adam Hill added the PAT, and the Bulldogs took an early 7-0 lead that would quickly build before the end of the first half.
Still in the first quarter, Devonte Porter returned a punt for 75 yards for a touchdown; Hill came on and added the extra point, and with 5:49 left in the first quarter, the Bulldogs were up 14-0.
Florala added to their own problems Friday night as they fumbled the ball into their own end zone on the next possession. After a mad scramble for the ball, Jared Hall recovered it for a Bulldog TD. Hill’s PAT was good, putting the score up 21-0.
Derek Holley added another Brantley TD when he ran 38 yards up the middle untouched; Hill’s PAT was good, bringing the score to 28-0.
The next Florala possession ended when Teven Daniels intercepted a pass and returned it 30 yards to the six yard line. Chase Hall hit Tory Upshaw for a six-yard TD pass; the PAT was no good, but the Bulldogs enjoyed a 34-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter looked very much like the first for Florala; by now, Brantley had put in its younger Dogs.
The Bulldogs took possession at their own 48 yard line, and drove 52 yards in six plays. Quarterback Zach Johnson threw a 12-yard pass to Jared Wiley for the next BHS score. Hill’s PAT was good, and the Bulldogs now led 41-0.
Florala kept the ball the rest of the second quarter, but couldn’t muster any points.
The second half of the game was played in 8-minute quarters.
During the fourth quarter, Tory Upshaw intercepted a Zachary Fleming pass and went 70 yards for a touchdown. Adam Hill’s point after was good, bringing the score to 48-0 with six minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Four plays later, Russ Kilcrease wrestled the ball away from a Florala runner and returned it 45 yards for the final Brantley touchdown of the night; after Hill’s successful PAT, the final score was 55-0.
On the final play of the game, Brantley’s Zeth Johnson intercepted a pass in the end zone and returned it 60 yards, running out the clock and sealing the overwhelming win.
Leading rusher for the Bulldogs was Derek Holley with 48 yards on two carries.
Quarterback Chase Hall was 4-4 passing for 84 yards and two TDs.
The Bulldogs will host region foe Ariton Friday night at 7 p.m.
