Tuesday was a landmark day for the Greenville High School volleyball team.

The match against Carver marked the first time the Tigers have hosted a visiting team.

In that match, Greenville fell 14-25, 21-25 and 9-25.

“All this is still new to us,” said head coach Morgan Cook. “However, I’ve seen vast improvements since we started.”

“We’re still working on understanding the game of volleyball, and that’s something that can take years,” she added.

One highlight of the afternoon came in the second game, when Flomeka McWilliams threw down a block at the net that caused the gym to erupt in cheers.

Greenville went on to nearly take that match, only to fall just short in the end.

The Tigers will face Atmore and Monroe County this Thursday before returning back to Greenville next week.

“I’m very happy with what the team has done so far,” Cook said.
