The Brantley Bulldogs came away with two wins in last Friday night’s pre-season jamboree against Maplesville and powerhouse Sweetwater.

The Sweetwater Bulldogs were the first ones to put points on the board within the first four minutes on the field. However, Brantley held them at bay until late in the first half. Quarterback Chase Hall tried twice but failed to connect with Devonte Porter before Sophomore Reed Kilcrease scored for the Bulldogs with 11 seconds left in the first half; the kick was missed, leaving Brantley trailing by one.

Due to an injury, Hall did not return to the game in the second half. Justus Harvey stepped in as quarterback and threw a beautiful pass to Jared Wiley for the second Bulldog touchdown. Zach Wiley ran in the two-point conversion, and Brantley held Sweetwater with a 14-7 win.

Junior Adam Hill made a good showing against Maplesville as he snatched a pair of pass interceptions from the Red Devils. The two teams battled it out until Brantley’s Zach Wiley put six points on the board with 14 seconds left in the game. The extra point was no good, and the Bulldogs claimed a 6-0 victory over Maplesville.

Brantley will travel to Luverne Friday night for the first regular game of the season. Game time is 7 p.m.
