The McKenzie Tigers took to the field in front of the student body Friday afternoon for another intra-squad scrimmage.
The first scrimmage last week was won by the White team, coached by Miles Brown, 2-1.
This week, Ezell Powell’s Blue team took the win 2-0.
The first touchdown of the afternoon came on a touchdown catch by Cliff Pugh, but the key play of the drive came one play earlier.
Cliff took a lateral pass and tossed a bomb to wide receiver Matt Lewis, and the play covered more than 50 yards.
“That was a good catch by Matt,” Powell said. “That was a big momentum change, and we needed to catch a break.”
The second touchdown of the game came after the rain started pouring, and Xavier Smith scored on a fullback belly play.
“Rakeem Ball also had a good game for us,” said Brown.
Brown also said that the Tigers have been dodging rain all week.
Normally during inclement weather, McKenzie practices in the gym, but the gym is currently undergoing renovation.
“Despite that, it’s been a pretty good week,” Brown said.
McKenzie doesn’t have a jamboree against another team scheduled, but the Tigers open the season next week on the road against Excel.
