Joseph N. Crowe

CROWE, Mr. Joseph N. “ Hody”, 48, a resident of Brantley died Friday, July 17, 2009. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2009 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Jones officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mr. Crowe was preceded in death by his father, E.C. Crowe and a brother, Barney Crowe. Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Holmes Crowe; two sisters, Linda Sue (Rick) Day and Mary (Michael) Henagan; three brothers, James Dewey (Merry) Crowe, John William Crowe and Mark Steve (Joan) Crowe.

Henry L. Merrill

MERRILL, Mr. Henry L. “ Jack”, 84, a resident of Lakeland, FL and a native of Dozier died Monday, July 20, 2009 after complications following heart surgery.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the Zion Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mr. Merrill was a veteran of WWII serving in the Navy. He participated in the Rhine River Invasion with the Amphibious Assault Unit, USS LST 308 on Utah Beach. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of UA Local #123. He was also of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Joyce L. Merrill; four children, Sandra Meeks, Ricky Merrill and Cary Merrill, all of Lakeland, FL, and Eugene Merrill of Polk City, FL; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Holland of Fayetteville, GA.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from noon until 1:30 p.m. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Good Shepherd Hospice or to one’s favorite charity.
