Greenville Belles headed to state tournament

After taking two games in a row from the South Land All-Stars, the Greenville Belles All-Stars are district champs and heading to the state tournament in Guntersville this week.

In the first game, Greenville won 12-2.

From top to bottom, the Belles got solid hitting from the entire team.

Cortnee Meyers scored three runs, while A.J. Sanford and Marvia Scott scored twice each, and Nikia Powell, Anna Nelson, Hollie Halford, Daphne Moore and Flomeka McWilliams also scored.

Tamara Truitt also came through with two singles, and TeLeshia McDonald and Jasmine Morrison both had one hit.

The pitching was also solid, with McDonald, Moore and Sanford each pitching two innings.

Greenville won the second game 11-2 with more strong pitching and hot bats.

McWilliams scored three times, and Moore, Meyers, Sanford and Powell had two hits.

Meyers struck out seven batters in five innings, and McDonald fanned five in only two innings.

The team will travel to Guntersville this Friday to play against Decatur in the state DEBS tournament.

Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
