What summer Saturday would be complete without a chance to go fishing?

This weekend, local kids will have the opportunity to land a big one without ever leaving the city limits.

The American Legion is hosting the Greenville Kids’ Fishing Day at the pond by the American Legion this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The event is open to all kids ages 5 to 12, but you have to be registered in order to participate.

Participants will also have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian and must be one of the first 50 to register.

Lunch will be provided following the event.

While kids won’t need to bring a sack lunch, they will need a hat, sunglasses, bait, a rod and reel and an ice chest for fish.

The event is hosted by the Greenville American Legion, the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, Fred’s of Greenville, the Greenville Jaycees, and the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division. It is also partially funded by the Federal Sport Fish Restoration Program.

To register or for additional information, call the Sheriff’s Office at 382-6521.
