The Brantley Bulldogs kept the Game One win away from Athens Bible Tuesday afternoon as they steadily held their 3-1 win over the Trojans in the AHSAA Class 1A state championship games.
Brantley’s Adam Hill got the win on the mound for the Bulldogs as he pitched a complete game.
The Bulldogs jumped ahead in the second inning by putting two runs on the board after a single by Chase Hall and another single by Jared Hall put the two on the bases. A bunt by Reed Kilcrease allowed both to advance. Another single by Chris Walker drove Chase Hall in for the first run of the game, while Jared Hall later added the second run for the Bulldogs in the second inning.
The Bulldogs added their only other run in the top of the third inning as Adam Hill crossed the plate after Chase Hall hit a double, leaving the Trojans scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning.
Athens Bible’s William Jackson and Kenneth Sherrod each hit a single and began to load the bases. Jordan Pugh added another single to left field, bringing Jackson across the plate for the Trojans’ only score of the game.
The Bulldogs came away with a solid 3-1 win in Game One.
Brantley faces the Trojans in Game Two this morning at Riverwalk Stadium.
