Lavon Mount
MOUNT, Mr. Lavon, 61, a resident of Brantley died Saturday, May 2, 2009 with his family by his side in Birmingham. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2009 at the Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Rev. William Leverette officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Zion cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.
Rev. Harry Driggers officiated at the graveside services. Rev. Driggers, who also serves as Brantley VFD fire chief, presented Mrs. Mount with Lt. Mount’s fire helmet and an American flag.
At the end of the service, the Alabama Volunteer Fire Department Honor Guard clanged the final bell to symbolize that all firefighters had returned safely home.
Lavon was an active member of the Brantley Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He enjoyed being with his family and friends, camping, fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mavis Folmar Mount. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Peggy Kilpatrick Mount; one daughter, Meredith (Mathew) Bozeman; special canine friend, Raye-Raye; and two sisters, Reba (Jimmy) Mason and Sharon (Jerry) Kilcrease.
Pallbearers were Chad Kilcrease, John-John Knighten, Derek Knighten, Tim Folmar, Blake Folmar, Tony Sims and Butch Taylor.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Brantley Volunteer Fire Department. The family requests that any memorial donations be made to the Brantley Volunteer Fire Department.
