CCA senior Eric Van Beek was named Most Valuable Player on the East Team during the 40th annual AISA All-Star basketball game held at Huntingdon College.

Van Beek was chosen to play for the East team early in February.

A luncheon was given the day of the games honoring all the All-Star honorees and their parents. Each All-Star participant was given a T-shirt, certificate, and sports watch in recognition of their efforts. The East defeated the West, and Van Beek saw plenty of playing time. After rotating all of the All-Star players in and out of the game, Van Beek ended up with 12 points in the game, 5 assists, and one rejection.

“He did an outstanding job of representing Crenshaw Christian Academy at the All-Star game,” CCA head basketball coach Michael Malpass said. “Eric is undecided at this time on which college he will be attending in the fall. He is weighing all of his options to see what scholarships may be offered and where he would see the most playing time.”

Eric is the son of Arend and Hetty Van Beek of The Netherlands.

Malpass was chosen as the East All-Star team’s head coach after CCA won the AISA State AA Championship in February.

“It was fun coaching the best of the AISA and getting to coach Eric one more time. I would like to thank the AISA for allowing me this opportunity,” Malpass said.

“I want to heartily congratulate both Eric and Coach Malpass for a job well done,” CCA Administrator Angela Carpenter said.
