Church yard sale: Yard Sale at Cameron Chapel United Methodist Church in Brantley, off Hwy. 106, April 18, 7:30 a.m. – noon. Hot dogs, drinks and baked goods for sale also. Cemetery Clean up Day: Arlena Cenetery in Highland Home is having cemetery clean-up every third Saturday beginning April 18th through the 3rd Saturday in October. We start at 7 am and work until finished.

Homecoming: Live Oak Methodist Church will hold its Homecoming on April 19 at 11 a.m. Speaker is Kline Jeffcoat. Covered dish lunch at noon. Cemetery meeting at 1:30 p.m. Revival: April 20-21, 7 p.m. each night. Speaker—Rev. Bob Yawn. Special music by Nancy Petrey.

Installation services: The installation services for Pastor-elect Minister David Head will be held on Sunday, April 26, at 2:30 p.m. Moderator W.L. Peterson, guest minister.

Annual Usher Day Program: You are invited to join the Greater Saint Matthew A.M.E. church family for fellowship on Sunday, April 26th, at 2:30 p.m., for their Annual Usher Day Program. The guest speaker will be Rev. Jeff D. Abner, pastor of Saint Mark Baptist Church in Glenwood.

COMMUNITY

Class Reunion: The Luverne High School Class of 1949 will begin its 60th reunion on Friday, April 17, with an informal gathering at the Rutledge Inn followed by dinner. On Saturday, April 18, classmates will meet at 11 a.m. at Luverne Nutrition Center on South Forest Ave., and stay until. Class members will gather back at Rutledge Inn Saturday evening and have breakfast together Sunday morning.

Crenshaw County Clean up Day: Clean up Day for the county is scheduled for Saturday, April 18. Area churches, organizations and volunteers are asked to participate. For more information, contact Chairman Ronnie Hudson or Administrator David Smyth at 335-6568.

Wheels and Deals: The HHS PTA is hosting a Car Show and Craft Fair for their spring fundraiser. Rain or shine event to be held at Highland Home School on April 18th, 9:00 – 3:00 p.m. Registration is $20 if you pre-register, $25 the day of the show. Registration day 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Judging at 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Awards presentation 2:00 p.m. Personalized handmade gifts, jewelry, baked goodies and much more. 10 X 10 booths are $25 each. Relay for Life Poker Run: The Hospice Relay for Life team is sponsoring a “Poker Run” on Saturday, April 18, at E. L. Turner Park in Luverne. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the first bikes out at 9 a.m. Cost is $15 per bike, with $10 for passengers or extra hands. Prizes will be awarded for the best and worst poker hands. Free coffee and snacks will be available before the run. Drawing for door prizes after all bikes are back in. For more information, contact Bonnell Morgan at 335-3970 or 617-2025.

Road Closing: Crenshaw County will be closing CR 6 at Providence Creek on Monday, April 20, for the purpose of replacing that bridge.

BOE Meeting: The Crenshaw County Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Monday, April 20, at 5 p.m. at the Central Office on Woodford Ave. The meeting is open to the public.

Relay Book Fair: Crenshaw Community Hospital will hold a book fair on Tuesday, April 21, from 6 a.m. – 4 p.m. Books and gifts for children and adults at discounted prices. Accept cash, checks, post-dated checks, payroll deduction, Visa, MC and Discover. Also, a free book drawing will be held. All proceeds benefit Relay for Life.

Relay For Life Survivors’ Supper: The Survivors’ Supper will be held on Tuesday, April 21, at South Luverne Baptist Church at 6:30 p.m. Cancer survivors and guests who plan to attend are asked to contact Patsy Owens at 335-6788 for reservations.

BOE -Kindergarten registration

It is time to register the children who will be attending Kindergarten the next school year, 2009-2010. Registration will be held at Brantley, Highland Home and Luverne schools on Thursday April 23, 2009 from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Junior Miss Orientation: Crenshaw County Junior Miss Orientation is scheduled for Thursday, April 23, at 7 p.m. at the Luverne Public Library. Parents are welcome to attend.

Relay For Life luminaries: Luminaries will be on sale until the night of Crenshaw County’s Relay for Life, Friday, April 24. Contact Kathryn Tomlin at the Luverne Public Library if you would like to purchase one in advance. The cost is $5 each.

Relay for Life Blood Drive: Crenshaw Community Hospital Relay for Life Blood Drive will be held on Friday, April 24, at E.L. Turner Park from 3 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Rutledge Homecoming: The Town of Rutledge will host its Homecoming Celebration on Saturday, April 25, from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. at Town Hall, and Sunday, April 26, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Rutledge Primitive Baptist Church.

Beauty Pageant: Miss Essence Pageant will be held Saturday, May 2, at 7 p.m. in the Luverne High School auditorium. Doors open at 7 p.m., and proceeds from the pageant will be used as a college scholarship for a graduating senior in Crenshaw County. Ticket prices are $6. Meeting: Crenshaw County Democratic Conference will hold its next regular meeting on Saturday, May 2, at 10 a.m. at King Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Luverne.

First Annual Miles to Mission:

The first annual Miles for Mission will be held on Saturday, May 2, at the Tom Harbin Farm Center in Luverne. The race will help benefit the Crenshaw County Mission Team as they make way to travel to Ecuador this summer. The 5K Run/Walk will start at 8 a.m., then the 1-mile fun run/walk will begin at 9 a.m. and the ‘tot trot’ will start at 9:20 a.m.

Refreshments will be provided after the race for participants. Preregistration guarantees a t-shirt and is encouraged for discount price. Contact Tracy Watson, the race director, at (334) 335-2437.

Piano Concert: Dr. T. Bob, a “Piano Portrait of Faith,” will be in concert Sunday, May 3, at South Luverne Baptist Church. Performance begins at 2 p.m. A love offering will be taken for the SKBC summer Mission Team’s trip to Ecuador. Reception will follow. For more info, call Guy Bruce at 334-335-5244.

Book Sale: Brantley Public Library is holding a book sale. Hardbacks are 25 cents and paperbacks are ten cents. The library is open Monday-Friday, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, and is located inside Brantley Town Hall.

Head Start: The OCAP Head Start is now accepting applications for the 2009-2010 school year at the Luverne Head Start Center. For more information call the Luverne Head Start Center @335-3909 or come by the office at 151 Votec Drive.
