Opening Day a ‘big hit’ in Luverne
Published 4:08 pm Thursday, April 9, 2009
Opening Day at E.L. Turner Park came with plenty of action and lots of sunshine Saturday as 28 teams kicked off the summer league of play. Luverne Parks and Recreation Director Lee Simmons said the day could not have gone any better.
“I was well pleased with the whole day,” Simmons said. “We had a good concession day, and I really appreciate all the coaches and all they did with the teams and the players.”
Simmons said that more children wanted to sign up for parks and rec ball Saturday after they saw how much fun the players were having.
“We’ve already had more to call or come by this week,” he said. “We’re still adding to our older girls’ teams, too.”
Simmons wanted to thank everyone for making Opening Day such a success.
“I appreciate all the help from my Luverne Parks and Rec staff for a job well done on Opening Day and for making everything run so smoothly,” Simmons said.
