GAYNELLE DAVIS LOFTIN

LOFTIN, Gaynelle Davis, affectionately known by family as Gran, age 95, a lifelong resident of Burkville and Lowndes County, departed this life March 30, 2009 at her residence. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 1, at 2 p.m. at Flatwoods Church of Christ, County Rd. 4, Fort Deposit, with Minister John Dickinson and Minister George Vinson officiating. Interment followed in The Flatwoods Cemetery with Harrison Funeral Home directing.

She leaves to cherish her memories: daughter: Linda L. Hall and her husband Lamar Hall, Burkville, Ala.; daughter-in-law: Winnie S. Loftin, Burkville; granddaughters: Sharon L. McGough (Lonnie) Honoraville, Ala., Lori H. Russell (Darren), Ramer, Ala., Lara H. Williams (Emmett), Prattville, Teri H. Miller, Prattville; great-grandchildren: Rachel Hunter Williams, Jacob Cody Williams, Pruett O` Neal McGough, Abigayle Elizabeth Russell, and Emma Hall Russell; sister: Mary D. Gingles, Greenville, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roy O. Loftin; son, Gilbert E. Loftin, Sr., and grandson, Gilbert Edward Loftin, Jr.

Gaynelle was a Christian woman, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Her churches at Flatwoods Church of Christ and North Lowndes Church of Christ were very special to her.

Pallbearers for Mrs. Loftin’s service were as follows:

Lonnie McGough, Darren Russell, Emmett Williams, Jake Williams, Neal McGough, Donald Loftin, Richard Gingles and Dale Young.

Flowers will be accepted or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Burkville Volunteer Fire Department at 214 Co. Rd. 37 South Hope Hull, AL 36043 or to Flatwoods Cemetery Fund P.O. Box 386 Fort Deposit, Ala.

DAVID M. WHATLEY

Graveside services for David M. Whatley, age 49, of Goshen, AL, who died Friday, March 27, 2009 at Baptist Health South in Montgomery, were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Henderson Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Joseph P. Hullay, Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Henderson Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Skeen Funeral Home of Troy. David M. Whatley was born September 29, 1959 in Long Beach, California. He was a crane operator in the construction industry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Betty Beeman Whatley and a son, Steven Boykin.

Survivors include his wife: Donna Whatley, Goshen; son and wife: David and Dawn Whatley, 1 grandchild: Natalie-Brent Whatley, all of Henderson.

JOHNSON

JOHNSON, Mr. George Windham, 72, a resident of Rutledge, AL, died Wednesday, April 1, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2009 from Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Brantley, AL, with Rev. Mack Sporman and Rev. William Leverette officiating. Interment will follow in the Brunson Chapel Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Margaret Johnson; two sisters, Dorothy Allen and Mae Grace Sorrells; and three brothers, Glenn Johnson, H.J. Johnson, and Robert Johnson.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gwen Stroup Johnson; four children, Jay (Denise) Johnson of Eclectic, AL, E.R. (Dionne) Johnson of Brantley, AL, Windy (Stevie) Taylor, and Melissa (Andy) Wright, both of Rutledge; seven grandchildren; a brother, Pete Johnson of Brantley; and a sister Eleanor (J.B.) Johnson of Brantley. Active pallbearers will be Chris Layton, Andy Kimbro, Ashley Kilcrease, Chad Carpenter, Ken Folmar, and Lomax Kimbro. Honorary pallbearers will be Lamar Folmar, Marvin Johnson, Bob Witherington, Bobby Hall, Joe H. Flynn, James Lamar Hall, Joe D. Flynn, Ben Carter, and Ronnie Garner. The family will receive friends at the Bethany Center in Brantley Thursday evening from 6 – 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Mission Trip, the Brantley United Methodist Church Mission Trip, or to the Brunson Chapel Cemetery Fund.

Mr. Johnson will lie in repose at Mt. Zion Baptist Church for thirty minutes prior to the service on Friday.
