After a solid start to the season in a weekend tournament, the Greenville Tigers softball team stumbled against Andalusia at home on Tuesday.

Andalusia jumped out by scoring four runs in the first inning and won the game 11-1.

“We just shot ourselves in the foot with error after error,” said head coach Donna Sunnycalb.

Greenville’s only hit of the game came from Marvia Scott, who then proceeded to steal second base.

After working her way around the bases, Scott scored on a fly ball sacrifice by Holly Hallford.

“Andalusia is a decent team,” Sunnycalb said. “They put the ball in play, but we just messed it up.”

That loss came after a strong showing in a Montgomery tournament last weekend.

“We played great at that tournament,” Sunnycalb said.

The Tigers defeated Jeff Davis and Southside of Selma, while falling to eventual tournament champion Montgomery Catholic 7-6 and Trinity.

Greenville has some time off before the next game against Excel on Thursday.

“We wanted to get some time in between the opening games,” Sunnycalb said. “We wanted some early experience, but we’re basically returning everyone except a couple of outfield spots.”

The Tigers have three seniors on the team: Nicole Norton, Elizabeth Richardson and Kairee Newton. Following the matchup against Excel, the Tigers will also participate in tournaments in Troy and Andalusia.
