The Fort Dale Eagles picked up a couple of big wins in a double-header against Crenshaw Christian on Tuesday afternoon.

Although the Cougars drew first blood in the opening game, Fort Dale surged back to take a 6-1 win.

Kendall Gibson struck out in the third inning, but reached first base on a wild pitch and would later score on a single by Daniel Nolan to tie the game at one.

In that same inning, Todd Burkett was hit by a pitch and Hunter Smith brought him around to score.

The Eagles added two more in the fifth inning after Burkett scored on a wild pitch after reaching base on a double.

Smith came through with another RBI later in the inning, and FDA added insurance runs from Paul Whigham and Stephen Till in the sixth.

Fort Dale got a strong performance from Aaron Callen on the mound with eight strikeouts.

In the second game of the double-header, things didn’t look good for the Eagles after the first inning, when the Cougars took a 4-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third, Smith drove in Whigham, and the Eagles continued rolling in the fourth, when Callen, Till and Brantley McKeown scored to tie the game.

The fifth inning was when the Eagles broke the game open with six runs as Till, McKeown, Hunter Armstrong, Johnathan Scott, Nolan and Smith all scored.

Nolan knocked in Eli Blackmon and McKeown in the sixth inning for insurance.

Nolan lead FDA in RBIs for that game with three.

The win moved the Eagles to 3-0 on the season.

“We’re off to a good start,” said head coach Josh Beverly. “We’ve got goals beyond 3-0, and we’ve still got a lot to work on.”

A challenge awaits Fort Dale this Saturday as they travel to Phenix City to face Glenwood.

“They’re 1-0 and a perennial powerhouse,” Beverly said. “We’re excited to go play them.“

The showdown with Glenwood is set to start at noon.
