Traffic stop leads to two drug arrests

A traffic stop early on the morning of Jan. 10 by Luverne Police Officer Mario Mendiola resulted in two arrests after two bags of cocaine fell from the vehicle as the driver got out.
Officer Mendiola stopped the truck at the corner of First Street and Martin Street in Luverne. As the driver, Lionel Kareem “Buck” Freeman, 24, of Perrywood Road in Goshen, got out of the vehicle, two bags of cocaine fell to the ground.
Freeman was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.
After searching the vehicle, a separate bag of cocaine was found in the console, along with two straws.
A second individual, John Edward Motes, 45, of Taylor Ave. in Luverne, was riding in the vehicle. He turned himself in to the Luverne Police Department on Jan. 13 and was also charged with possession of a controlled substance.
