Dear Editor,

I don’t live in Georgiana any more, but it still is considered “home” for me. My hearts, as well as many friends, are still there. I graduated from Georgiana in 1961, the year that Georgiana beat Greenville in football for the first time in 10 years and went on to become undefeated.

For those that remember, that was the year that Greenville had two of the fastest backs in Alabama, Ronnie and Mickey Fault. I do hope I spelled their names right.

What I am trying to say is that the town of Georgiana and the “name” Georgiana have deep meaning to me.

I am hearing that the B.O.E. is going to build a new school in Georgiana but they want to leave the name Georgiana out of the name of the new school.

This is very hurtful to myself and many others that have ties there.

We are not ashamed of Georgiana or the name. We are proud of Georgiana and all the memories that the town and our school have given us. I think memories are important!

So I am saying that the name of the new school should have the word “Georgiana” in it. Why is the Board of Education of Butler County so “bias” to having the town name in the new school name?

Is it because they really don’t care how the people of Georgiana and former students feel about it?
