Sport joins Luverne PD

Rex Sport, formerly of Nebraska, has joined the Luverne Police Department.

The Omaha native attended the University of Nebraska-Omaha and served as a combat engineer in the Army for four years. He was stationed in Ft. Polk, La.

“My family would visit Crenshaw County every summer, so Luverne is like home to me,” Sport said.

Sport, 41, has also worked as the division director for an advertising agency and as an executive in the casino industry.

He also worked with a private firm that was appointed by the court system for criminal investigations. He began serving as an officer with the Luverne PD in September.

Sport now resides in Luverne.

“I’m proud to be here,” he said. “I’m a strong Christian, and I believe that we are here to serve each other. Any opportunity that I may get to do that as an officer of the law is important to me.”

“We are glad to have Rex with us,” LPD Assistant Police Chief Ed Billings said. “I believe he’ll be an excellent addition to our department.”
